Crowns

Protect and restore damaged teeth with our custom-made dental crowns. Andrew Thomas utilises his expertise to create crowns that are both functional and aesthetically pleasing.

What are dental crowns?

Dental crowns, also known as caps, are dental restorations that are placed over a damaged tooth to restore its shape, size, strength, and appearance. They fully encase the visible portion of a tooth above the gum line and are custom-made to match the colour and shape of your natural teeth. Dental crowns can be made from various materials, including porcelain, ceramic, metal, or a combination of materials, depending on your specific needs and preferences.

How are dental crowns placed?

The process of getting a dental crown typically involves multiple visits to the dentist. During the first visit, the dentist will prepare the tooth by removing any decay or damage and shaping it to accommodate the crown. An impression of the tooth will be taken to create a custom-made crown that fits appropriately. While waiting for the permanent crown to be fabricated, a temporary crown will be placed to protect the tooth. During the final visit, the temporary crown will be removed and the permanent crown will be cemented into place, ensuring a secure and natural-looking restoration.

Frequently asked questions

We've compiled a list of common questions about this treatment. If you have any other queries, please get in touch.

How long do dental crowns last?

On average, dental crowns can last between 10 to 15 years. However, with proper care and maintenance, they can potentially last even longer. It is important to practice good oral hygiene, including regular brushing and flossing, to support the longevity of your dental crown.

Can dental crowns be whitened?

No, dental crowns cannot be whitened. The material used in the crown, whether porcelain, ceramic, or metal, is resistant to teeth whitening treatments. If you are considering teeth whitening, it is recommended to do it before getting a dental crown to enable a uniform shade across all your teeth.

Are dental crowns noticeable?

Dental crowns are designed to blend in seamlessly with your natural teeth. The colour and shape of the crown are customised to match your existing teeth, making them virtually indistinguishable. This allows you to enjoy a restored smile that looks and feels natural.
